Andrew Spittal is a Director and shareholder of Ching Contracting and a long-time backer of numerous community initiatives. He's also a mountain biker so, when he heard of plans to develop a mountain bike park at Kaiteriteri, he was quick to offer his support.
He began with a personal donation of $2500 from his Family Trust to the management team to help cover tool purchases and incidental expenses.
This was followed by both the donation and subsidy of many hundreds of hours of mini-excavator use and of his personal time in constructing our tracks Sidewinder, Swamp Monster, Glade Runner, Revelation and Easy Rider.
Andrew's wholehearted commitment allowed the rapid expansion of our track network and earned us the accolade of "the fastest growing mountain park in the country" (Kennett, 2010). Over the period of his engagement with the Park, Andrew has also provided invaluable advice, donated materials, helped "open doors" and been an enthusiastic advocate of the Park among his many business & social colleagues.
From someone who had, by his own admission, limited excavator experience, Andrew quickly became skilled at benching mountain bike tracks in challenging terrain. These skills now see him in demand elsewhere in the region, so his 'free time' remains scarce.
Andrew's identification with the Park remains strong and he continues to assist us from his unique position in the construction industry.
We are lucky to have him as one of our Foundation Sponsors.
